This sweet face appeared in my email one day and drew me in immediately.
Jackson was diagnosed with a unique case of Hemangiosarcoma. His HSA was found in his intestines and spread to the liver and omentum, making it stage 3 Hemangiosarcoma. His family was shocked and sad about the diagnosis but they pushed on and did 5 round of chemotherapy on him. It is her hope that the treatment will give him years, not months. I loved what Andrea shared with me “I found your page after scrolling the internet for ANY information about this disease. My husband and I really leaned on your site/resources as we digested the news. Jackson has his first oncologist appointment soon, and I’ve used your questions under “newly diagnosed dogs” to help frame our conversation. ”
As they went through the diagnosis and treatment of his cancer, Andrea, his Mom, decided she needed to make a difference for other dogs who might go through what her family was going through.
Here is what she said about doing the fundraiser during such an emotional time:
“It’s been very healing for me to channel some of the stress and emotions through fundraising. Really hoping to make a difference somehow! “
Jackson and his family raised money for our Hemangiosarcoma grant at their local coffee shop, Grandview Grind, and did a fabulous job! Not only did she raise money to fund research, she raised awareness that cancer is an issue in dogs. Both of these are much need to make an impact in this fight.
She sent me this email as she finished up the fundraiser and treatment:
“Besides the good news of raising money to fight this awful disease, the even better news is that his tumors are shrinking!!! I just wanted to say thank you for existing. In a scary time, you really made us feel not so alone. Thank you”
