The National Canine Cancer Foundation is excited to announce our 2017 partnership with “Book That Event” and their “Paws FUR Pink” Run/Walk Series. In our continuing quest to raise awareness, educate and provide research dollars for canine cancer research, events such as the Paws FUR Pink series and RunAgainstCanineCancer.org are imperative in progressing the fight and showcasing similarities between human and canine cancers.
Surf City Surf Dog® Organizers Hold Paws FUR Pink®, Dog-Friendly Run/Walk Series for Cancer Awareness
From Book That Event, organizers of the world-famous Unleashed by Petco Imperial Beach Surf Dog and Surf City Surf Dog events, comes Paws FUR Pink®, a dog-friendly run/walk SoCal series for breast and canine cancer awareness held annually in February. Participants can register to run or walk with their dogs and raise funds for charity paw-tners, which include the Orange County and Los Angeles Affiliates of Susan G. Komen, and the National Canine Cancer Foundation (NCCF).
“We, Book That Event, place an emphasis on women’s health and wellness and understand that cancer affects not only our daughters, sisters, friends and mothers, but the men in our lives as well. We created an event that includes dogs because we understand that the love of our pets is what we need to feel better,” said Lisa Scolman, co-founder of Paws FUR Pink. “We’re dedicated to supporting organizations that provide the necessary research, treatment, care, hope and inspiration to those affected by this disease. This year, we are thrilled to also be raising funds for canine cancer research with the National Canine Cancer Foundation.”
“We are very excited to be joining Paws FUR Pink® Run/Walk series in 2017. This is a wonderful way for us to connect with people and educate them about cancer being a real issue in our dog’s health, as well as in people. People and dogs working together to raise funds for research is a very powerful partnership,” says Gary Nice President of NCCF.
The first Paws FUR Pink® event was held five years ago in Orange County. Since then, the event, now also held in Los Angeles and San Diego Counties, has raised $79,238 for Susan G. Komen.

About Susan G. Komen
In 1980, Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan, that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became the Susan G. Komen organization and the beginning of a global movement. What was started with $200 and a shoebox full of potential donor names has now grown into the world’s largest nonprofit source of funding for the fight against breast cancer. To date, we’ve invested more than $2.6 billion in groundbreaking research, community health outreach, advocacy and programs in more than 60 countries. Our efforts helped reduce death rates from breast cancer by 37 percent between 1990-2013 and we won’t stop until our promise is fulfilled.
