Kamp Kitty held its fourth annual Paws for the Cause Canine Cancer Fund Raiser on February 9, 2013. We are a small group of friends who believe in positive dog training and having fun with our dogs. The fund raiser and the cause it supports are near and dear to our hearts. Shortly after cancer took my dear 8-Ball, it was suggested that Kamp Kitty might want to hold a fund raiser for canine cancer. We did some research on the different organizations supporting canine cancer research and held a brain storming session to come up with ideas. We had so much fun hosting the first event in 2010; we decided to make the fund raiser an annual event.

Kamp Kitty's 2013 event was another success. Handlers and dogs participated in Rally Obedience run-thrus, along with demonstrations of Freestyle and Nose Work. Those attending had the opportunity to purchase tickets for raffle items, bid on silent auction items and play the instant win game. There were many wonderful raffle and silent auction items - homemade dog treats (w/ingredients listed), embroidered sweatshirts, dog and people blankets, a canine first aide kit, garden sculptures, picture frames, gift certificates for training classes, dog message and grooming, a pup-tent full of goodies, dog crates, a "Manners Minder", an agility tire, various bottles of wine, pottery, wonderful bags and baskets stuffed full of goodies, and much, much more. All these items were generously donated to help raise funds. As the event drew to a close, bidding on some of the silent auction items grew furiously and the winners went home with some terrific prizes. Along with money raised on the day of the event, proceeds from a seminar given by trainers from Kamp Kitty were generously donated and we were able to add funds raised by selling T-shirts and other items during the year.

In adddition, a large rainbow adorns one wall of the facility, where individuals can place a heart in memory or in honor of their pets. Last year we added a balloon release, which everyone loves. This year, the sky was blue and the sun was shining brightly. As the pink balloons floated out of sight, they appeared to turn gold. It was a beautiful and memorable sight. We are looking forward to Kamp Kitty’s 2014 Canine Cancer Fund Raiser, which will be held on February 8, 2014.
