Eddie, a greyhound/german shepherd, was our sweetest boy.  He couldn't bear to see humans or animals upset.  He liked to hold hands.  He was always smiling.  He loved to chase squirrels, play with his best friend Otis, our 14 year-old chow mix, and be with the people he loved.  When we'd take him to the vet, his techs would comment that he was the only dog they knew who'd be happy during tests or shots.

In May 2008 Eddie was diagnosed with a mass on his spleen and had emergency surgery.  A week later we learned he had hemangiosarcoma and that he had three months at the most to live.   We determined to make Eddie happy and loved during his remaining time with us.  He celebrated his 9th anniversary with us on Memorial Day weekend.  He cuddled with us and played with Otis.   It was a bittersweet day for us.

On June 8, 2008, Eddie woke up happy.  He and Otis chased a squirrel during the morning walk.  A couple hours later, Eddie began to decline rapidly, coughing blood.  That afternoon he died with his humans hugging him and holding his paws.  He had his beloved (and forbidden) chocolate before he left.  He felt safe and loved 'til the very end.  We miss him dearly every day.

He is survived by his loving humans Matt and Lisa O'Keefe.  He is also survived by Sid, a Catahoula Leopard Dog. Sid never got to meet Eddie but did his best to keep Otis from missing Eddie too badly until Otis died on 5/9/09.  We like to believe they are together again and keeping one another happy. 

Hemangiosarcoma is an aggressive, brutal disease.  Eddie hated to see anyone suffering or unhappy.  In honor of Eddie we would like to raise funds to fight hemangiosarcoma.  All funds raised here will go to fight the disease.
